Come on, let’s discover the cantilevered lamp!

First things first, what is a cantilevered lamp? Well, it’s a lamp with an arc-shaped arm, a mechanically jointed arm, or a cantilevered straight arm that allows you to create directional downlight without the constraints of a regular suspension light. So, in a way, you kind of get a two for one: a floor lamp that is also a suspension lamp!

Of course, this all had to start at some point. And the father – per se – of this beautiful and very functional floor lamp was the Flos Arco Floor Lamp, designed by the Castiglioni brothers and introduced in 1962.

Thought to fit the needs of its user, the Arco features a hole in its Carrara marble base, enabling it to be moved by two people with a broomstick! It also features an adjustable arc and a swiveling shade for precise light control, which are always important features in any cantilevered floor lamp.

Eventually, the Flos Arco Floor Lamp led to the Nova Arc Floor Lamp, a spin-off of the original design.

The new lampshade kind of breaks the gap between the traditional style and its shiny features. Also due to its new and shorter arm, the Nova Arc Floor Lamps is less of a bold statement than its predecessor, making it suitable to be featured in pretty much any interior design style.
