The iconic stylist, author and tv host Emily Henderson has some words for us concerning how to style your home. Emily published a new design book where she shows us how to transform your spaces with a stylist’s eye.

Secrets for Arranging Rooms, from Tabletops to Bookshelves, is filled with tips for finding your style and personalizing your space, making each room feel polished and magazine – (or Instagram) – ready. This book features some design basics, including creating contrast, choosing a color palette, and working with balance and scale.

Sometimes rooms can have all the right pieces and still feel incomplete, we all know this. But Emily has something to say about this: that’s the point when the decorating ends and the styling begins. Let’s go see her suggestions:

Living rooms offer plenty of styling opportunities, from cocktail and side tables to bookcases. For rooms with multiple vignettes, the key is to make sure they’re balanced, with details and color spread throughout the room.

A bar cart is the perfect setting for a well-styled vignette. Henderson recommends stocking a bar with plenty of liquor options, appropriate glasses, and tools so your guests can help themselves.

When it comes to choosing a color palette, Henderson suggests looking to your closet. The color you wear the most can help jump-start the rest of the scheme.
