Billy BL Floor Lamp: a Timeless Piece by Studioilse
There are a few floor lamp designs that just remain through time and become icons that forever stay in our minds. In fact, we’ve written about some of them before. And that just might be the case with Ilse Crawford’s re-creation of the Billy BL floor lamp.
Earlier this year, Kalmar Werkstätten showcased two of British designer Ilse Crawford’s designs, with the intent to honor her Designer of the Year award.

It was the successful launch of the Billy TL table lamp in 2015 that led to this year’s redesign of that piece, creating, thus, the Billy BL floor lamp. Like its table version, Billy BL highlights both industrial and anthropomorphic qualities.
This lighting design piece was re-created by the London-based designer Ilse Crawford. She added sophistication, humility, and warmth to an already utilitarian design. Billy proves that utilitarian design — the honest construction of simple materials — can both reflect an industrial heritage and perfectly accent a domestic environment.
In the variation, a rosewood stem standing on satin-brass feet replaces the unstained oak and colored lacquer of the original. The lampshade features a duotone finish, matte black exterior with a satin brass interior, creating an ambient feel.
However, there is more than one choice on what concerns the lampshade, and you can also find the Billy BL floor lamp with metal finishes colored green, yellow, light blue, black and white. You can see some of these suggestions above.
