FOR YOUR INTEREST IN MODERN FLOOR LAMPS
Sustainable lighting has enjoyed a massive boom due to technology in the past few years. Nowadays, going green doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style and that’s why you should be buying eco friendly lighting.
The proliferation of affordable LED and CFL bulbs has changed the way we light our homes. Although the first adopters associated theses bulbs with the unfortunate garishness of their preliminary models, today’s offerings are just as attractive as their incandescent predecessors and in some cases even more so.
The market has also made an adjustment in order to adopt an eco-friendly and innovative lighting. Novel work has also emerged from top lighting designers seeking to rethink the way to use materials to create lamps.
Kenyon Yeh’s Carrie Me LED lantern for the MoMA Store boasts a detachable strap for practical portability. This USB-charged lamp was inspired by Danish tradition of hygge and can be used hung or carried anywhere, from your dining table to midnight strolls on the beach.
Knoed’s Light2Go is as sustainable as it gets. The company’s innovative packaging-free concept means the wrapping doubles as a shade. And if that’s not enough, every part of the lamp is biodegradable or recyclable.
Made of 100 percent postconsumer recycled glass, Bambeco’s Atlas pendant adds an artisan touch to any room. Its spherical, oblong design offers a uniquely modern feel while its simplicity speaks to its versatility.
Though you’d never know it, lighting design firm Graypants, based in Seattle and Amsterdam, uses corrugated cardboard to create its Scraplight series. Each shade is made of FSC-certified paper sourced from forests that replant more trees than are harvested.
Portable and durable, the OXO Luau lamp can hold a charge of up to ten hours of energy efficient LED light and can be moved indoors or out with the changing of the seasons. Luau’s not tethered to an electrical outlet, it makes stationary lamps look so, well, stationary.
Candela continues the long tradition of Scandinavian flame luminaries by advancing the product with 21st-century technology. Part phone charger, part bioethanol fueled lamp, Astep’s Candela lantern harnesses the power of fire to illuminate a LED light. The lamp, designed by Francisco Gomez Paz, includes a USB port to charge any number of your devices.
The Nanoleaf Gem puts a design spin on classic lightbulb form and can be integrated into any lamp or hung on its own. Each LED bulb boasts a lifespan of 23 years and is available at two brightness levels.
