You don’t need to roam the earth to get the perfect colors for your home design project, sometimes all you’ve got to do is look at the light. Yes, that’s right. Light can play a huge part when it comes to achieving the perfect color for your walls or even your furniture. So it’s good to keep in mind some notions.

First of all, it’s important to know that most of the professional interior design pictures you see online are worked on with after effects and with light-play during the actual shooting. So before you make any decisions on which colors to use on your own project, make sure to experiment with different lights and see how that turns out.

In the example above, all the walls except the fireplace one are painted with the same color. However, the obvious presence of natural light opens up the color of the far right wall. But if you don’t have the gift of natural light in your own home, or in the next project you’re planning out, there are still some options you can work with. Let’s check them out!

USE LIGHT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE

The light source you choose affects how colors appear in a room, but so does the way you use the light. On the photo below you can see how the white walls are filled with patterns and a warm glow, all thanks to those ingeniously placed LED strips under the stairs.

ADJUST BULB COLOR WITH FIXTURES

If the color of light produced by a bulb isn’t quite to your liking, you can tweak it by picking a fixture shade that changes the light. You can also opt to use LED lights that are prepared to be used with a full spectrum of colors, like these ones we’ve mentioned before.

Furthermore, if there’s any part of your room you’re trying to highlight, a floor lamp might just be what you need. It has the advantage to shed light on a specific focal point, and with the right light bulb, it can open up a color and make your room look bigger and/or more inviting.
