For two days, 20 – 21st of June 2018, Oporto will be the centre stage of Design and Craftsmanship Summit. Organized by the design group – Covet Group, the summit will bring some of the most amazing speakers along with some of the best artisans in the country. You’re set to have a good time.
Bringing along some of the most creative minds in the design industry, the place to talk about where the craftsmanship heritage and the modern world meet. For two days in a row, you’ll be able to experience to the event where luxury meets artisanship.
Michaelangelo Foundation, an international non-profit entity that celebrates and preserves master craftsmanship and strengthens its connection to the world of design.

Fundação Ricardo Espírito Santo Silva, a foundation created with the objective of protecting and disseminating the Portuguese Decorative Arts and the handicrafts related to them.
Now, onto the luxury, Vista Alegre & Topázio. Two of the most successful brands in the Iberian Peninsula, one is the oldest porcelain factory – Vista Alegre – and Topázio, with more than 140 years of history is an expert in the creation and production of unique designed hand-carved silver. Worldwide known Topázio dominates the jewel industry.
And one of the most unique brands in Portugal – Boca do Lobo. Where furniture art and design meet. Having an innovative design whose pieces of furniture are an exclusive, emotional and creative experience.
It wouldn’t be a Craftmanship and Luxury Summit without artisanship.
Leaf Gilding! Referring to a decorative tech to a decorative technique for applying fine gold leaf to solid surfaces such as wood, stone, or metal to give a thin coating of gold. While it seems easy, it’s a very complex technique mastered by skilled artisans.

So it’s obvious that Filigree will also be highlighted during this event with a strong live showcase that will promote this jewellery art form that translates into a delicate metalwork that simulates lace.”
It wouldn’t be a Portuguese summit if it didn’t honour the traditional Portuguese Arts & Crafts. Azulejo and Arraiolos. “Azulejo it’s a form of painted tin-glazed ceramic tilework extremely popular in Portugal. It’s so popular that it’s protected by law and all buildings with Azulejos have to obey some strick maintenance laws!”
The Arraiolos Rugs or Tapestry – inspired by Persian Carpets and consist of rugs made of embroidered wool with some amazing patterns that are exclusively made in a traditional manner in the small town of Arraiolos, Portugal.
The Lace of Bilros – “This lace is produced by the successive crossing or interspersed of textile yarns, executed on the pike and with the aid of pins and bobbins. This textile art form was in decadence during the 20th Century.” To maintain the tradition, the Portuguese Government started programs aimed to keep up the tradition.
